BUSINESS ENGLISH WORD OF THE DAY: ETHOS

BUSINESS ENGLISH WORD OF THE DAY: ETHOS

Has your company or organization made Employee Morale a fundamental part of its business ethos?

French translation, éthos

Hello Darlings! Happy Tuesday!

Let's talk about the core values and business ethos of your company or organization. What would you say is your company's ethos with regard to employee morale as a genderal rule? Do you feel that employee morale is important to your leaders in your organization? Is it a priority or an afterthought?
What measures do they have in place to assess and measure how employees are feeling? Would you say that employees in your company are basically happy with working for this company? Is there employee engagement? Or is there a significant percentage who are disgruntled about one thing or the other, and therefore, is there a high percentage of employee "disengagement"?

From what you can see, what are people happiest about in your company? And what are they not so thrilled about as a general rule? Do people love their jobs? Are they passionate about what they do and about working for this company? Or is this just a job they are getting through to pay for rent - a means to an end?

And speaking of company ethos, how is your company dealing with the disruptions caused by the coronavirus? Do you feel their response to this crisis (and the impact this crisis has had on the lives of their workers) is consistent with their stated mission statement and their business ethos? Would you say that your company's response to this crisis and the impact (both at work and in private) it has had on the lives of its employee shows that employee morale underpins your company's ethos, or even that it is at the foundation of your company's ethos? Are the employees and their bosses banding together to get through this situation? Has the company basically asked everyone to take a two week paid holiday to wait out the virus?

Or would you say something else? Do you feel your upper management executives are oblivious to the mental and psychological challenges their employees are facing both professionally and personally during this difficult time? Are people feeling disgruntled? Are they frustrated? Do they feel they don't have their company's support? Have your coworkers gone on strike, or threatened to go on strike like they did in some big companies in the US?

Let's talk about this at our next meeting whether face to face or telephonically.

If you would like to start or continue with English conversation lessons therefore, it will be strictly by telephone. I look forward to speaking with you, que même.
