So, I have just conceived a new section of Business English Paris - the blog, which will be called Water Cooler Confessions. The idea is to use your imagination to imagine what you would do in a certain situation and then discuss it.  So, with the Water Cooler Confessions, Business English Paris (that would be me)  will provide you with a hypothetical and you are tasked with imagining how you would react, and then discussing that in perfect English with me. One word answers are verboten.

Imagine that you are a supervisor or manager and it has been brought to your attention that your underlings have been engaging in any of the following six bad habits? Would you fire these people or put a note in their files? What if you are also guilty of the same behaviors?

1. The underling uses company time to do their online shopping, and to send personal emails and personal text messages to friends and family members throughout the day.

2. The underling spends a significant portion of the day flirting with coworkers (even though it is widely known that he or she is already in a serious relationship like a marriage)

3. The underling constantly gossips

4. The underling is a competitive saboteur who constantly tries to sink his or her coworkers.

5. The underling has a sleep problem and is caught sleeping on the job quite often.

6. The underling is suspected of using office time to have lovemaking sessions in the toilette or other areas of the building. (Giggles  😁.)

How would you handle these scenarios as a leader, given that you are not that innocent as far as at least one of these bad habits is concerned?
