BUSINESS ENGLISH WORD OF THE DAY: LAUNCH

The Word of the Day is LAUNCH

Do you think that your company will launch a public health campaign after Covid 19 and if so what will it entail?

French translation, lancement

Hello Darlings! Happy Wednesday!

Hope you are doing well today. The word I chose for today is LAUNCH. In English it means to "start or set in motion an activity or enterprise." So you can launch a company as well as you can launch a campaign or an activity or program. Things like that.

For conversation, I am wondering whether you think that your company will launch any special programs or activities to help protect and inform employees about their health, going forward after coronavirus. Or maybe the question should be "do you think your company should launch or begin any new programs and initiatives for their employees to promote health in the workplace? And why or why not?"

To be honest, I am not even sure what I am getting at with this question but I do wonder whether coronavirus will mean changes in how people work. For example, the cubicle situation where you have so many people sitting in an open space so close together, is that going to be sustainable. Is it coronavirus friendly to have people working in such close proximity like that or would it be healthier to allow people to have their own offices (preferably with a window?)

Maybe there are other measures that should be put in place, I don't know. What do you think? What habits and procedures  are in place right now at your office that you think need to change post coronavirus in order to safeguard employee health in the workplace?

But it doesn't even have to be about employee health. Your company could launch other initiatives as well. They could suddenly decide to launch a new Robotics department, for example, and decide to hire a bunch of robots to do a significant chunk of the work which could mean that your job is suddenly in jeopardy. They could launch a "Leadership Committee" or other committees or programs that they deem necessary to further the operational goals of the company.

I guess the question I should ask you is what new launches have you seen or do you expect to see in the near future, in your company?

If you would like to start or continue with English conversation lessons therefore, it will be strictly by telephone. I look forward to speaking with you, que même. I have noticed that I now have visitors from countries other than France including Germany, United Arab Emirites, Belgium, Spain and Oman.
